I know I know, but I am really overly excited to go to Barcelona on Sunday for Mobile World Congress and cannot help myself and need to state as often as possible Barcelona Baby. Like Joey from Friends who was over the moon to travel to London seeing Ross and Emily getting married and annoyed everyone saying London Baby all the time. :-)
As this my first trip to Barcelona, I did some basic research about public transportation, apps, events, food and the MWC venue which I would like to share with you:
- Wikitravel is always a good start and also has a nice overview of how to get from the airport to the city: wikitravel.org/en/Barcelona
- Network Name: MWC2012_FREE_WIFI Password: mwc2012wifi
- Public Transportation: the best way to get around (if there is no strike) seems to be the metro with a day ticket (from 1 up to 5 days) tmb.cat/en/home
- Tripadvisor App Barcelona: works also offline and includes maps, restaurants, hotels, tours, nightlife and attractions – used the one for Tokyo and it is really great, so hopefully the one for Barcelona is also good (available for iOS and Android)
- Metro app (has nothing to do with Windows 8 ;-)): know this app since my long lost Palm m500 days, great tool for public transportation – just download the city you are planning to be in. (available for iOS, Android version via the website:nanika.net/index-en.html
- Unfortunately I cannot make any restaurant recommendation, maybe the app foodspotting can help or turn to foursquare and look at the tips
- for the German speaking readers: there is a very nice microsite by heise mobil aggregating news and providing helpful info around city: heise.de/mobil/specials/mobil-MWC-startseite-1173719.html
- and finally of course: parties parties parties: there is the MWC events app at the Android market and also a Web App blog.wapreview.com/17100, the best overview so far ist here:m-trends.org/2012/01/mobile-world-congress-2012-networking-events-parties.html
- finally finally: come by our AppUp booth in Hall7B28 on Monday and/or Wednesday 5:30-7:00 pm to meet and network with Intel peeps and fellow developers on.fb.me/w2Zv8b
Please add if you have any recommendation or tips for Barcelona/MWC newbies like me!
