Intel Atom Developer Windows Beta 3 SDK brings Enhancements & Component Integration

Printer-friendly version

The Atom Developer Program has just released Beta 3 of its Windows SDK. With this new release there are a number of enhancements to assist application development, as well as opening a new marketplace opportunity for component sales & integration for Intel's Atom Developer Program.

New Era of Components
Since the Atom Developer Program launched Intel has supported component development; enabling developers to create and submit component solutions that can be used by other member developers. However with the launch of the new Windows Beta 3 SDK Intel is now allowing developers to submit AppUp applications that use these component solutions in their applications.

This means that component developers for the first time can earn additional revenue from applications distributed and sold through Intel's AppUp Center as well as branded app stores based on the AppUp Center framework. Currently there are over 17,000 registered developers on the Atom Developer Program providing a growing base of developers needing components to aid them in building quality mobile applications. As well there are new AppUp Center stores such as the latest announcement from ASUS to provide developers a broader audience of customers who may purchase applications with components.

Along with the new SDK launch, Intel has published improved documentation, processes and validation guidelines on the Atom Developer Program site to make this process of submitting, selling and using components more streamlined.

Additional Enhancements
In addition to component support there are the following enhancements with the Windows Beta 3 SDK, including

  • Enhanced error coding: Added a new error code ADP_TIMEOUT when communication between the application and AppUp Client times out.
Developers can test by checking ADP_RET_CODE of C APIs. C++ developers can check code() API of AdpException inside catch() block.
  • Enabled crash reporting: Enables crash reporting to a developer's portal by fixing a previous SDK issue which prevented crash reports being properly reported
  • Authorization improvements: which fixes a time-out error responsible for oops errors with the AppUp client.

Key Calls To Action:

  • Action Required: No new action is required by developers with this release
  • Recommended Action: Resubmit existing applications using the new SDK is recommended for developers wanting the enhancements such as crash reporting, or use of a component from the Atom Developer Catalog
  • New Apps: All new apps submitted will be required to use the latest SDK. If you are in process to submit a new application, download the new SDK and use it before submitting your application.
