I was helping out my neighbor (a true computer novice) to setup his computer. In the process, I realized how some relatively trivial things to me turned out to be really annoying and confusing to him. Installing applications was one of the big issues for him. He was not sure what the different options for installation were, he was really confused with the next button, etc. His comment was really interesting: “I don’t totally understand this application, why are they forcing me to make so many decisions to begin with”.
I realized that the most frustrating thing for users is the inconsistent application installing processes and consumers find it really annoying to have to sit through multiple steps for installing their application. The user preference is simple consistent installation without much user input. Keeping the “KISS” principal – Keep it Simple Stupid – we have now published the packaging requirements for windows and moblin. Obviously some of the requirements are necessary for your application to successfully install on the store client software. Please follow the guidelines for a successful validation.
The requirements are pretty straightforward and simple such as,
• Submit MSI package – submit a standard Windows Installation package in the form of .MSI file. The MSI must include all required collaterals associated with your application.
• Silent installation – Your application must install without any required input from the user.
The entire packaging requirements are posted here.
