What is the Intel AppUp Encapsulator?

The Intel AppUp Encapsulator is a web-based tool that makes Intel AppUp(SM) center-ready apps out of your web code.

How mature is Intel AppUp Encapsulator?

We're currently deploying the alpha version of the Intel AppUp Encapsulator 2.0. This new version allows you to build, test, and start submitting apps. However, since the Encapsulator 2.0 is still an alpha version, the developer assumes responsibility for the final quality of applications submitted during the alpha phase. (For now, you can also continue to use Encapsulator 1.0 if you wish.)

Start here for version 2.0 alpha. You can choose version 1.0 once you arrive.

What’s new in the 2.0 alpha version of the Intel AppUp Encapsulator?

The Intel AppUp Encapsulator 2.0 adds JavaScript APIs to support: In-App Upgrades, In-App Purchases of consumable and non-consumbable items, In-App Content Purchase via the Urban Airship portal, and application usage measurement. Also, this new version of the Encapsulator incorporates the Chromium* WebKit for improved HTML5 and JavaScript* support.

Terms & Conditions

1. How to Enter

Post a blog comment about application development for Tizen devices on Tizen.org.

To be eligible for prizes, blog comments must be at least 100 words long, feature app or application development for Tizen devices, and must include at least one (1) of the following:

A testimonial on experience developing a Tizen app or application.
Recommendations for future releases of Tizen and/or product improvements.
A solution to a specific challenge in Tizen development.
Advice or a demo on how to write an app for Tizen.
Porting an existing app to Tizen.
Use of the Tizen SDK (available at developer.tizen.org).

Participants must be 18 years or older. Contest will run from 7:00 PM PACIFIC May 7, 2012 to 7:00 PM PACIFIC August 7, 2012. Participants must follow the community and content guidelines for Tizen.org. (https://www.tizen.org/community/guidelines)

2. Prize(s)

Three prize levels:

First 50 eligible comments posted receive a $50 VISA gift card (limit of 5 per individual).
A total of three (3) 480 GB Intel Solid State Drives (SSDs) will be awarded once/month during contest period (value=$800 US each).
A Grand Prize of a high end desktop PC, featuring an Intel® CoreTM i7 processor worth up to $4000 US, will be awarded at conclusion of contest.

The Intel AppUp^TM encapsulator 2.0 alpha

The Intel AppUp^TM encapsulator team has released an version 2.0 alpha, which features much improved HTML5 and CSS3 support. Currenly, both the Intel AppUp^TM encapsulator 1.0 beta and 2.0 alpha are available for you to use.

HTML5 Compatibility Score

The 2.0 alpha version is now using Chrome 17 under the hood, and the HTML5test.com results have improved to 377 out of 500 points possible. This places the Intel AppUp^TM encapsulator on par with other grade "A" browser, and gives web applications developers a solid platform for application development.

AppUp APIs and services provide numerous options for building in and adding on in-app features. These features can provide a level of security and protection from piracy, allow additional monetization of your app, or report back to you on usage or crashes. Options vary depending on AppUp SDKs listed below. To integrate any of these services into your application you must be using a supported AppUp SDK. See chart below.

Developer Services BETA

The Developer Services BETA from Intel AppUpSM developer program, gives you access to a new set of cloud based APIs. These APIs allow you to integrate location aware capabilities and features into your applications for Ultrabooks and other devices. For the initial beta release, you can create apps with the beta APIs for Geocoding, Reverse Geocoding, Maps, Directions and POI.

Introduction

Intel AppUp™ In-App Purchase Software allows developers’ end users to purchase non-consumables, and content directly within an application, without going back to the Intel AppUp center. This simplifies and shortens the purchase process, thus enabling the end user to make a quick purchase. For Example, developers could use the Intel AppUp In-App Purchase Software to implement any of the following:

Basic, free application with an option to purchase a Pro version
Application that allows users to pay to unlock new levels or advanced features
Application with the ability to buy content, such as eBooks or videos

Store Activity Report

From the applications dashboard a new link is provided called “Store Activity”. This link will only be active if you application has had activity within the Intel AppUp(sm) Store and partner stores

When you select the link from your applications dashboard, you will be presented with a summary report of the activities of your application. It will reflect gross sales , downloads & cancels by store, by currency.

This report is not intended to be used as a replacement your financial reports. Please refer to your financial reports for detailed information
Free & promo applications will not display any sales data.
Data for the store activity report is only available for an application once payouts have been completed for that month.

What is In-App Unlocking API?

As part of the family of In-App Purchase APIs, we are introducing a new API called In-App Unlocking. This is an addition to the existing In-App Upgrade API. The release of the In-App Unlocking API for AppUp allows users to purchase non-consumable items, such as a level, a feature, or other items within an app.

Windows application developers can now monetize features within their applications through In-App Unlocking API. Specific features, for example, game levels can now be made purchasable items within the app. This is a great feature that lets application developers introduce their base applications to users at minimal/no cost.

What is the Developer Services beta?

The Developer Services Beta from the Intel AppUp(SM) developer program is a new set of cloud APIs that provide location aware capabilities and features for app development for Ultrabookss and other devices. There are five location based APIs in the Developer Services Beta: Geolocation, Geocoding, Reverse Geocoding, Maps, Directions and Points of Interest (POI).

What are the Developer Beta RESTFul APIs

The Developer Services Beta API are a set of 5 location based API available for any OS and device that can make http calls to the Internet. These APIs include: Geocoding, Reverse Geocoding, Maps, Points Of Interests and Directions. The API can called using HTTP and the return value can be either XML or JSON. These set of APIs can be accessible from the AppUp developer program websites software services portal.

You can get access to the Developer Service here.

Is the Developer Services beta different than the AppUp SDK?

Yes, these are two separate services that are offered from the Intel App developer program. Both must be downloaded separately and both offer completely different features for app development.

Developer Services Beta brings a new set of cloud APIs that provide an enhanced set of app development capabilities and features for Ultrabooks & mobile devices.

The initial set of services are available for beta testing of un-monetized apps and provides a suite of location based API's. These APIs allow developers to test and integrate location-based capabilities into Ultrabooks and mobile devices to create new functionalities and usage scenarios for location-aware apps across a variety of devices.

The HTML5* Playground is a tool to inspire developers to explore, learn, share and experiment with HTML5 applications and code. It's built with simplicity in mind, and it's social from the start. It's being released as a beta Intel AppUp developer tool, and we will be rapidly adding features in the coming weeks. HTML5* Playground works in any HTML5* supported browser.

The HTML5* Playground provides developers with a web based code editor, a live application preview window, and a library of sample code and snippets to use as starting points. Have fun modifying examples or build your own. Watch your changes happen live in the preview window.

It's Social

The HTML5* Playground is social from the start. This means that anything that you create, can be shared using a permalink. We are also integrating with more than 100 popular social networks so that you can share your code with the world.

Packaging Resources

Windows* apps have specific packaging requirements. All .NET, Windows Native, Adobe AIR and Web apps will have to be packaged as an MSI installer. JAVA applications will have to be packaged as a .JAR file.
