By Gunjan Rawal and Amelia Barton

The Intel AppUpSM Center Beta for Moblin™v2.1-based netbooks is now available. Moblin v2.1 based applications submitted and validated through the Intel® Atom™ Developer Program are now available to consumers in the United States and Canada. Future updates to the Intel AppUp Center will support the MeeGo software platform forming the channel to market Intel-based MeeGo applications for devices in a variety of categories beyond netbooks such as smartphones, consumer electronics and more.

Starting March 31, 2010, The Intel AppUp Center Beta (Windows* & Moblin v2.1) will also be available in 27 European countries. This expansion will offer the opportunity for software developers in the Intel Atom Developer Program to reach consumers in one of the top markets for netbooks worldwide. The additional countries expected to be available for developers to sell applications are Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

Developers can make their applications submitted through the Intel Atom Developer Program available in these markets by following a few easy steps: When you submit your application to the Intel Atom Developer Program, the ‘Pricing and Components’ section provides the ability to set your application price, locations you wish your application sold and respective currencies. You can also check the box that allows for your application to be automatically sold in any new countries as they are added to the list of countries in the program. More information on setting the price and countries is here.

Since the launch of the AppUp Center Beta, we’ve seen strong interest from developers, and a burgeoning pipeline of new applications being developed for the growing netbook market. The goal of the Intel Atom Developer Program is to provide developers everything they need to create, distribute and sell netbook applications while providing support for applications that fundamentally change the netbook user experience.

The Intel Atom Developer Program has also recently launched many initiatives designed to support development of creative apps and user experiences for netbook usage models. Developers are encouraged to submit their applications for validation by March 31, 2010 to be eligible for accelerated revenue and incentives through the first phase of the Million Dollar Development Fund – additional phases will be announced. Developers are encouraged to participate in the Intel Atom Developer Challenge which offers prizes for applications submitted by August 16, 2010, including 2 grand prizes worth $50,000 for the most innovative and elegant applications.
