The Million Dollar Development Fund is a fund set up by Intel to help accelerate innovation in software applications for Intel® Atom™ processor-based products, starting with netbooks, and eventually supporting smartphones, consumer electronics and more devices. With the netbook market set to show "very strong market growth” according to ABI Research* from 35 million in 2009 to 139 million in 2013, this new fund is designed to fuel new opportunities for developers and independent software companies worldwide.


The Intel AppUp(SM) Developer Program Million Dollar Development fund represents Intel’s global commitment to support developers and software companies drive innovation at all levels. The fund will be available to individual and student developers as well as small, medium and large software companies to support the development of new, compelling user experiences and applications on the netbook platform. The fund will provide hardware and financial support to developers with the objective of reducing barrier to entry for new application development and accelerating time to revenue.


The Intel AppUp Developer Program offers powerful software development tools, active online communities, training events and more. The announcement of this fund strengthens Intel’s support of the software developer community through additional financial incentives.


The fund is available to different types of developers, and offers different funding models to best support these audiences. Current funding opportunities include:


This fund will seek applications in the multiple focus areas, including but not limited to Home /Lifestyle, Entertainment, Education/ Reference, Utilities/ Security and Games.



How to apply:

  • Fast Track 2010: To be a part of the Fast Track 2010 program, developers are invited to submit their applications to the Intel AppUp Developer Program before March 31, 2010 and submit an application here. Intel will select 250 applications get a jumpstart by contributing $500.

  • Dollars for Downloads 2010: To be a part of Dollars for Downloads 2010, developers are invited to submit applications before March 31, 2010 and submit an application here. 100 applications will be selected and Intel will help selected applications get accelerated revenue on the Intel AppUp Center for 4 months.

  • The Intel AppUp Developer Challenge: Multiple prizes and marketing exposure for developers and their applications, phase 2 starting March 09, 2010.
